When you pay for a finished video from Idyllic Labs, Inc. (operating as 20cuts), you get a broad commercial license to that video. This page spells out exactly what the license covers, what it doesn’t, and when the editable source files come with it. It applies to the finished video you paid for and kept; a video you took a refund on is not licensed to you.
What you own
On delivery and full payment, you own a license to use the finished video for any commercial purpose. The grant is meant to be as plain and complete as it sounds:
- Everywhere. Worldwide, on any platform and any medium, including your site, ads, social channels, sales decks, app stores, and email.
- Forever. The license is perpetual and does not expire or require renewal.
- For business use. You can use it to promote and sell your product, and you can run paid advertising on it, with no separate royalty or per-view fee.
- Including the soundtrack. The music in your video is properly licensed for this use and is covered by the same grant as long as it stays embedded in the video we delivered.
- Editable to a point. You can trim, caption, and re-cut the delivered file for different placements. Rebuilding the animation itself is what the source files, below, are for.
The license is yours and doesn’t depend on crediting us. You never have to name 20cuts anywhere in or around the video.
What we keep
The license covers the video. It does not hand over the machine that made it. We retain, and you don’t receive, the following:
- Our tooling. The animation engine, render pipeline, and internal systems used to produce your video.
- Our animation library. The reusable components, motion patterns, and templates that predate your job and outlive it.
- The candidates you didn’t pick. The other videos in your free set stay ours; buying one finished video does not license the rest.
The licensed music is a case of its own: your grant lets you use it inside your video, but it does not let you extract the track and reuse it on its own, because our own license from the music source doesn’t extend that far.
Source and project files
The delivered video is a finished file. The editable project behind it, meaning the source files, the per-scene files, and the music stems, is a separate thing, and it transfers only in two cases:
- On the Flagship tier. Flagship includes the editable project files as part of the package.
- With the source-files add-on. Any tier can add the editable project for a $500 add-on.
Without one of those, we keep the project files and you keep the finished video. The quality of the video is never what’s tiered; only how deep your ownership goes.
Voice cloning on Flagship
The Flagship tier can narrate your video in a cloned voice, either a voice you record for us or one you have the right to use. If you choose this, two things have to be true, and by choosing it you confirm both:
- You hold the rights. You warrant that the voice is yours, or that the person it belongs to has agreed to its use in your video, and that letting us synthesize it doesn’t break any contract or law.
- You consent to synthesis for this video only. You authorize us to create and use a synthetic version of that voice to narrate your video. We use the cloned voice only for your video and the re-voicing it includes, we do not reuse it for anyone else, and we delete the voice model on request.
Portfolio
We may name your company as a client and, with your permission, show the finished video in our portfolio. If you would rather we didn’t, tell us and we won’t.
The rest of the terms
This license sits inside our Terms of Service, which cover payment, the money-back guarantee, warranties, and governing law. For anything about your license, write to hello@20cuts.com.
